Manly is a harbour and ocean-side suburb of northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, 17 Kilometres north-east of the Sydney Central business district. It is the administrative centre of the local government area of Manly Council, and is the southernmost of Sydney's Northern Beaches.
Manly was named by Captain Arthur Phillip soon after his arrival in 1788, after the indigenous people living there, who he deemed to be confident and manly.
